If that were true, Dorian Yates would just have been a regular dude in the 90s 🙂
I think to Joes point, if the working set is stimulating and challenging the muscle progressively more than last training session, then progress will be made. You don’t need to suddenly switch to 10 sets of an exercise because some dude says it’s a magic number that guarantees growth. Ride the gravy train of whatever is working until it doesn’t … Then make changes.
