Is there any place it would be appropriate to use ascending weights each set for the same number of reps?
For example a DB press – what benefits, if any, would there be doing a set of 80×8 with 2-3 RIR, a set of 90×8 with 1-2 RIR, and then a set of 100×8 to failure.
What are the pros?
What are the cons?
I understand that those earlier sets will take away from the load you’d be able to handle using a top set and back off set with descending weight during warm ups and will accumulate more fatigue. But is there any instance or exercises you would prescribe this type of structure to a client ? Or is back off sets more appropriate and more beneficial due to being able to handle more load?
