    Hi Joe,

In your videos you explain how the front squat or the SSB is superior for quads hypertrophy because the torque at the knee is greater (and less at the hips/spine). I don’t have a SSB but I tried front squats for some weeks and I felt them more in my quads but what failed first are my thoracic erectors muscles, since it’s so hard to maintain the position (I also never did front squats, so they are probably not conditioned to that stimuli). When I back squat, even though I feel more glutes and adductors, I always fail first from my quads, so I’m not sure what to do:

Option a) Keep doing only front squats and hope that my erectors get strong enough soon so that my quads can fail first.

Option b) Ditch the front squats and focus on the back squat.

    Option c) Alternate between them.

What do you think Joe? My goal is of course maximal hypertrophy of the quads and I’m willing to do whatever option. Also I’m thinking of buying a SSB (probably the best option, right?) but that will take a while since there is no stock anywhere, so I need a solution while I arrange that.

    Thanks.

    Best,

    Agustin.

Is there any difference between the SSB and the Front Squat in terms of quads hypertrophy?

I think the Front Squat might have a slightly greater moment arm to the knee and less at the hips/spine, but the SSB might compensate for this by allowing more load (mass) to be used (since holding the bar in the rack position is no longer a limiting factor), so they might come out very similar. What are your thoughts on this?

    Thanks!
