Good morning. I’m seeing a lot of conflicting information on this. Is the rule of thumb to go by 1 g of protein per pound of lean mass or body weight? Thank you in advance.

Hello Bryce, so I am interested on your response and maybe I am not understanding it correctly because you say the method is not as important, but for example my lean mass is 195lbs based on a very fancy body scan thing and my total weight is 260lbs. 1g per lb of each of those numbers is a huge difference. Wouldn’t that alter my macros a lot, not to mention one being a lot more protein than the other Wouldn’t excess protein be detrimental in that case or be too little on the other hand.

Forgot to mention, the nutrition calculator on this app will advise protein intake to be 1lb per pound of body weight, at least when I ask for a balanced macro split…How is 75g of protein a day betwen lean mass and body weight not a significant difference, enough to hinder progress?
