Been working with my coach for a year now and I love our relationship. Great communication we work well together and I consider him a friend at this point. He is a competitor as well within the European circuit (2 bros, PCA etc) and I compete within the US (NPC).
Now my question is how do you handle differences in philosophies on training, and physical limitations? For example at times I don’t necessarily agree with his ideas on how to progress my physique at times yet over time his methods have worked. Now even though they have worked I don’t truly believe in some cases what was done was the true cause due to research I’ve done. For example to improve my hamstrings post show he wants me to do mini pump sessions 5 days a week going through ranges of 20 reps of light weight on hamstring curls. This is something that I don’t see that will assist in hamstring development but he swears by this. This is one of many examples at times where I just kind of wonder what he’s thinking and why?
On the philosophical spectrum at times he places limitations on what my body could possibly do due to me being natural. He is an enhanced athlete and at times when I look at some top level amateurs or new pros from nationals it’s as if he doesn’t believe many of the results can be attained naturally. Given I understand the PED use within the industry but in many cases it’s almost as if those limitations are placed on me in his mind.
I will add we have a great relationship and We are open on these things it’s just I have only had 1 other coach so I don’t quite know what I don’t know if that makes sense. Hope this made sense and if I need to clarify the exact questions I can. Thanks guys!
