Hey, my program tells me to do safety bar squats, which I don’t have, so then it tells me to do front squats. I have heard a lot of bad stuff about the front squats from people like jpgcoaching and Ryan Jewers. In my training day front squats come before hack squats which are towards the end. So two questions.

Would it be better to switch out the front squat for a back squat (Ryan Jewers says so)?

Wouldn’t it be better do the hack earlier since it’s a quad focused day, and I already have done 2 quad exercises before that?

Front Squats are great , nothing wrong or inherently dangerous with them. Also if you listen to the video Joe talks about how your other option is a normal squat trying to keep the upright posture as much as possible. Saw the video of JPG coaching talking about it but like Joe always says implement and figure it out for yourself . Your back might be a limiting factor but that probably means you have shitty back. And with the rest of the exercise you will hit your quads really well. I can see argument against it only if its a standalone exercise

Hacks squats you can push very close to failure safely as the machine itself provides stability. No skill needed .
Front squats require you to have skill and stabilize the weight yourself , ergo why its first. Since it will require the most out of you atleast mentally for me . By the time you reach hack squats the ability to execute exercises that require skill from you will be very low. I’m guessing that’s why its the last movement. Get the most out of your quads pushing very close if not yo failure. Safely with no need to think much about bracing or execution

    Makes much sense. Thank you!

Same I don’t have the safety bar and I hate front squats. I switched to heel Elevated barbell squats to get more quad involvement instead and this has been pretty great.
I do this before hack squats as someone above said by the time you do the hacks you’ll be pretty burned and they’re safer at that point in the workout.

Yeah I’m thinking about doing that too.

I’m a lifetime member and I feel guilty for how much info and literally how much of “Joe’s time” I get for the amount I paid.
    Thank you lots.

Thank you! This really made sense since you went into such detail. I’m gonna do it like it is in the program now. I still don’t understand why Ryan Jewers say back squats are superior but honestly I trust you more. I’m amazed at how much time you put into answering these questions in so much detail. LOVING the app.
