Hey Joe, I’m 7 weeks out of my first show, eating clean, training hard, but I’m a little lost with how to program my workouts. I’ve heard from some that as you get closer to the show you need to focus on higher rep sets like 15-20 or more. Until now I’ve been getting great results with your low volume approach, but as you said volume will increase at some point in prep. All that makes sense but in your training videos, some of which you were prepping, I didn’t see any really high rep sets for the bread and butter lifts. Correct me if I’m wrong, its almost like nothing changes for you except upping your work sets and maybe adding some drop sets. But the experienced competitors in my gym say things like you need to do all high rep sets in the weeks leading up to the show to bring out more “lines” in the muscle and extra definition.
So just wanted your 2 cents on this one: should I sacrifice intensity on my bread and butter lifts to do more reps now? Or is what they’re saying broscience and it’s better to up my volume in other ways.
