    Hey Joe,

I have been trying to lose some fat over the past several months, and over the past few weeks I have been losing 2-3lbs/week. However, I feel like I am not looking much better (but I will let you decide). My calories are pretty low (about 1300 if my estimate is correct) but I am also 5’3 145 and sedentary. I thought some of the extra weight coming off was water but I have been trying to drink 10 cups (from 8) per day. Am I burning off the little muscle I have, or is it just part of the process? If you were in my position, would you continue? Trying to get from 22% bf to at least in the teens.

Thanks for answering Joe! I really appreciate it. Here are some things that you asked about.

-I have been on a layoff from the gym so it’s kind of hard to say, but over the past month my lifts have definitely improved slowly, so I guess I am not losing muscle (fantastic!)

-I have been dieting for about 92 days now so I am a ways in. I actually started this at 165lbs really, really fat

-You are absolutely on the money about using a milder deficit. I was previously losing only 1-1.5lbs/wk previously and then with no significant changes started losing more. So I will bump up the calories a little bit so the rate of loss slows (sounds good to me)

-I have been tracking my macros, weighing my food, measuring my waist pretty much the whole time. My waist has lost about 3/4 in over the past 3-4 weeks.
