Hello, sir! I will try to make my questions short and to the point.

What is the purpose of pump or density work (super sets, drop sets, giant sets…)? What is it that we are try to accomplish on a cellular level that we wouldn’t be able to accomplish with 15-30 reps sets taken to failure, with enough rest in between? Other than being time efficient, is there any other advantage? I have noticed that I get a significant pump from every set taken to 12+ reps, especially on isolation exercises, doesn’t that provide enough metabolic stress? So, contrasted to straight sets in higher rep ranges and enough rest to warrant pure muscular failure (and not cardiovascular or nervous), is there a real benefit to density work? With more rest, we can put more mechanical tension on our muscles, isn’t that always better? Also, does the benefit of density work change/increase with training age?

    Thank you for your time.
