Hey Joe & Bryce, gonna be running the PPL 1 program. I train out of my garage but I have a pretty well equipped gym with quite a few commercial machines. Hammer Strength Incline Press, Chest Supported T-Bar, Functional Trainer, Pendulum Squat, Leg Ext/Curl, DB’s up to 135lbs, hyper extension, etc. I consider myself an intermediate maybe even advanced. I’m no competitor but I’ve lifted for a long time and I’m a nerd for hypertrophy as well.

I know there’s a big surge for “optimal” movements these days basically meaning to always choose the one with the most stability, most loading potential, etc. So my question is should I ALWAYS opt for those movements.

For example, looking at the push workout for the PPL program. Should I use my Hammer Strength Machine Press in swap of DB’s because it’s more stable? Pendulum instead of Squats? Etc.

I may already know the answer but I always get so caught up in “running the program to a tee” b/c well it’s likely someone much smarter and more experienced like yourselves created the program and there’s probably a reason for the exercise choices/sequencing.

Included some pics of my gym for context. Thanks for all the help.

Thanks man. I started building during Covid like a lot of folks and decided this was the way for me long term(crazy work schedule, two young kids) so this has been an absolute life hack. Big investment and definitely not cheaper than just paying for a gym membership lol. But what a luxury it’s been having it.
