Hi, what do you think about smith flat/incline presses instead of barbell flat/incline?
Smith makes it feel more comfortable/safer to go to failure and I’ve been doing it this way, especially when some programs include smith incline by default (though never smith flat).

Also, is this, in your opinion, a big deal to swap flat machine press for incline?

When I stall on one exercise, I swap it out with another and then when I stall I swap to another one between 2-3 different exercises.

My machine has angled seat and I’m not sure how/if it is possible to turn it into a flat press when seat only goes up and down and the backrest doesn’t go below like 45 degrees but even then it severely limits range of motion.

Bump, but no need to sweat it, just wanted the question not to fall too far down

Hey there! I think you’ll find most of your answers in these “chest videos” from Joe.

    Thanks guys.

I’m waiting until I can’t make at least half a rep (saw this idea to progress by partial reps in one of Joe’s vids) more in 3 workouts straight and then swap. But I also switched from full body every other day to 2021 prep because I got to a point where I felt like my back and chest couldn’t keep up and felt beat up. Now gonna run weeks 1-8 and then repeat 1-8 or just keep milking week 8 until I’m done with weightloss, then kinda eyeing Bryce’s PPL or Joe’s & Terrence’s current program (hopefully other weeks get released by then 😎), to be decided in a few months when I’m done with 2021 prep.

By no means an advanced lifter. Just on a deficit and using quite a bit of dumbbells.

And yeah that last paragraph is a mess and I’m not sure what exactly I meant but the lack of flat machine press was fixed because I have two gyms within 2 minutes walk from each other and the other one has a flat press, but with cables.
