I plan on building a home gym and was debating whether or not to get a cage that has a smith machine attached to it or not. There are a bunch of cages nowadays that have cable systems that will imitate a functional trainer so I should be good on those movements for the programs you have provided. But for exercises that require a smith machine, I wonder if it’s worth to have a smith machine where you can just simply do it with a barbell.
With no cost issue in mind, my decision on whether or not get one would be solely due to if smith machines are more effective or not as opposed to free weight barbell. So I was wondering on what your thoughts are on the smith machine vs barbell debate in terms of what could actually put on more muscle when hypertrophy and building muscle is the focus as opposed to strength.
