I find it very hard to master the exercise safely without a spotter watching my form. What are the closest safe substitutes for these excellent compound exercises and will these be a worthy replacement to the classic exercises mentioned?

Thanks Bryce. I’ve been doing hyperextensions all along and there’s no GHR in my gym. I still feel off doing RDL/deadlifts – feels like I cannot bend low enough (my hands can only reach slightly below knee level) and my hams feel like the limiting factor here (can’t go further down because of hams).

Assuming I keep overloading on hyperextensions, can I do without RDLs/deadlifts in my workout for life & still get most of the benefit?

Have you tried using a trap bar for dls? The handles can come up higher depending how you rotate it, and might help with lack of mobility in your case. I found for myself my form improved when I switched from straight bar to trap bar. Worth a shot if anything.

yup I would love to use the trapbar! Unfortunately it’s unavailable in my gym.
